Share Name mapping as "Ricoh Printer"

$

We have a 2012 Print Server with 20+ printers shared for our domain. When we connect a Server or PC to a Ricoh shared on the Print Server (Accounting Ricoh C5502) - the printer name only shows up as "Ricoh Printer" in Devices & Printers on the client.

This is happening with several different Ricoh models, and different OS like Server 2012 and Windows 7. All other printers show up as the Share Name in Devices & Printers: "Accounting HP 3010 on PS01" and "Admin HP 3005 on PS01" for example.

Any ideas why the Ricoh's won't display the share name?

How do I save a copy of a fax to a folder that cannot be deleted by users using Windows Fax and Scan?

We have a windows 2012 server with a fax server, all our Win7 computers receive faxes and when one of us saves the fax to a pdf we delete it (using windows fax and scan). Sometimes faxes get deleted accidentally or for one reason or another we need to go back and recover one.

We've been using some kind of internal website that has a side feature which keeps copies, but unfortunately I really don't know where it saves them or really how. Problem is, it stops working from time to time and just having them in a folder on our network drive would be a lot easier to get to.

I poked around and found out there was an "Archive Folder" you can set from the Fax Manager, but it doesn't archive. When deleted from Fax and scan it deletes it from this "Archive" and vise versa.

Which brings me to my question, how do I get it to save a copy to a folder that won't be deleted by users?

It had been a few months since my last windows update, so I updated my server.  Since then I get an splwow64.exe error whenever I launch any application that has printing.  I can no longer print to my usb attached printer.  It worked fine before, but then stopped.  I deinstalled and reinstalled the printer to no avail.  I'm running Windows 2012 server R2.

Here are the latest updates to the server.  Should I remove any of these to see if printing works again?

Paused and deleted print jobs on Windows 2008 R2

Hi there,

One of our network user's print jobs are randomly paused and disappeared from the print server.  In the event logs eventID 308 says:

Document 12, Test Page owned by User1 was paused on Printer320. This document will not print until the document owner resumes the print job. No user action is required.

Other users have not had this issue, the difference is this username is a generic network account that's been used by multiple users.  The user is not pausing the jobs and the printer is in the ready state, and restarting print spooler service on the print server would fix the problem but it will reoccur after a while.  Is there any way to find a permanent fix?  Thanks.

How to clear stucked print job wiithout print spooler service stopped?

There were print cluster set up under windows 2008 r2 server and some print queue built there.

I found that some document get sucked on specified print queue, i try delete those document but got no luck.

After further check, i found the related files to that sucked document are located in "spool" folder. I try delete them but there were warning message stated that it were accessed by print spooler services.

I did not want to stopped the print spooler service to clear those sucked print job as all print queue on the print cluster server would got affected.

Therefore, i would like to know if there were any alternative way to clear those sucked print job without the print spooler service restarted/stopped on server side.

Thanks for any suggestion.

Cannot map printer to 2/4 RDS Servers

We have 4 Server 2012 R2 Remote Desktop Servers, all configured the same.  We have a 2012 Print Server, and deploy printers via Group Policy.

Recently, 2 of the 4 Servers will no longer map a specific shared printer for users.  It will map fine on the other 2 RDS Servers.  This is a Xerox 6655 MFP.

If we try and connect manually via \\PrintServer - we get the error of:  "Windows cannot connect to the printer. Cannot create a file when that file already exists."

None of the users are Local Admins of the RDS Servers. If we make a user a Local Admin of the Server, the printer will map correctly.  If we remove that user as a Local Admin, the printer does not map again.

We have tried:
Updating to the latest Xerox driver
Created a new Shared Printer
Removing all drivers and processors from the RDS Server and registry

Any ideas?

Printer alternate trays during print-out

$

Hello, we did recently install Konica C258 printer with Windows 2012 as printer server, but problem occurs.

Specifically when we do a multi-page print and explicitly choose Tray 2 dedicated for special fine paper, then only the first page is printed out from Tray 2 and subsequent pages print from Tray 1 (regular paper.)

I have never experienced that the trays are alternated during print-out, so is there some settings in Windows print server that needs to be configured, or more likely to be the printer settings itself? Thanks!

hello all

Got a weird 1... in all of my servers 2012 R2 the print confirmation balloon that says "this document was sent to the printer" stopped appearing...

im using a 2012 r2 print server with 2012 r2 RDS farm

i tried the following:
* open devices and printers > print server properties > verify "show informational notifications for local/network printers"
* gpo start menu and taskbar > turn off all balloon notifications = disabled
registry - verified the key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Printers\Settings contains:
EnableBalloonNotificationsLocal = 1
EnableBalloonNotificationsRemote = 1

still no balloons appear... anyone had this problem before?

thanks

Sean.

Print Server Audits (How many prints done by individual per month)

$

I have been asked to devise a way to get information from my print server to tell how many print jobs per month a user is printing. I have already found posts regarding using a powershell script in order to pull event viewer info from Event ID's 307 and 805. However, they seem to be for the PowerShell advanced or Professional. I'm trying to not spend a whole lot of time on this, is there any way to get these audits just by using Event Viewer? Has anyone done this in the past?

Thank you,

Darin

Update driver on print server - shouldn't clients get it?

$

We are having an issue with a Kyocera driver.  We recently started getting new models of some of these Kyocera copiers, and with it a newer version of the same driver.  The new copiers are slightly different.  The driver version went from 5.x to 6.x  We soon discovered that the two don't work well together on the same print server.  Some departments all of the sudden can't print.  The error they get is "can't connect to printer".  As if there is no driver.

On the print server I updated the driver for our printer here in the IT department.  I didn't just update it from the existing printer (Properties>Advanced Tab>New Driver), I instead deleted the printer, recreated it, and used the new driver when I recreated it.  That worked here in the IT dept.  It does not work in other departments.  A day later they still have the old driver.  Rebooting does nothing.  I got the new driver within 3 minutes of updating it on the server.

Seems like a rights issue.  I give them "manage printer" rights.  Still don't download the new driver.  But... they can all of the sudden print - with the old driver!  Makes no sense.

Under normal circumstances, shouldn't they get the new driver whenever I update it on the server?
